Responding to the news that Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jeane Freeman, has referred concerns about NHS pension plans to the Chancellor of the Exchequer for review, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Willie Rennie has written to the Health Secretary requesting she take "urgent action" herself to address Scottish consultants' and surgeons' concerns, rather than "farm out" the problem to Westminster.

Willie Rennie said:

"The Health Secretary can't farm this problem out for resolution in Westminster. The NHS is devolved and Jeane Freeman needs to take urgent action to address the poorly devised settlement that is deterring Scottish doctors and surgeons from taking on extra out of hours shifts here.

"We need a Scottish specific solution that will address the complaints of consultants and surgeons working in the Scottish NHS."
