Responding to this afternoon's speech from Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party Lesley Laird in which she refused to rule out voting for a Brexit withdrawal agreement, Scottish Liberal Democrat constitutional relations spokesperson Wendy Chamberlain said:

"It's astonishing that despite the desire of both the people of Scotland and their own party membership to remain in the EU, the Scottish Labour leadership continue to contemplate a red Brexit.

"Brexit would be bad for the economy and public services regardless of the colour you paint it. It will harm just the people that Labour claim to stand up for.

"Anyone in the Labour party disappointed by the continued foot-dragging of their leadership should know that the Scottish Liberal Democrats have been unwavering in support of a People's Vote including the option to remain in the EU."
