Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has today warned that the Health Secretary must oversee a drastic improvement in governance and conditions at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after an inspection by Healthcare Improvement Scotland highlighted a series of serious safety and cleanliness issues.

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

"It's incredibly disappointing to hear that maintenance and cleanliness are falling far short of what patients and staff expect at this flagship hospital. They deserve better than dust, grime and damaged facilities.

"Just four years into a building's lifespan, there shouldn't be parts that are so dilapidated that they have become impossible to clean.

"The Health Secretary must keep the situation at QEUH under close monitoring to ensure that governance and conditions improve. Given staffing and resources have contributed to problems, she must also get on and publish the long overdue integrated workforce plan."
