Responding to news that more health boards are facing scrutiny over their use of endowment funds, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"As more allegations of potentially misdirected funds come out of the woodwork, the government ought to take a wider look at endowment health spending.

"These cases highlight the strains on the system and staff will be hoping the troubles at NHS Tayside will force the government out of its current state of complacency.

"Following the government's failure to recognise the funding needs of health boards across Scotland, we need to know whether boards have dipped into their endowment funds to smooth over gaps in their budgets. The Health Secretary must also ensure the NHS has the resources it needs to meet demand."
