Cole-Hamilton: Frustrating A&E figures show more people waiting longer for help

Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has voiced concern at new A&E statistics out today, which reveal performance against the 4-hour waiting time target has fallen to 87.1%.

This coincides with NHS Dumfries and Galloway requesting an additional £4.5m from the Scottish Government to reduce waiting times and alleviate pressure on emergency care services at the new Dumfries Infirmary.

Alex Cole-Hamilton said:

"It's hugely frustrating to see more people having to wait longer than they should have to for attention at A&E.

"Staff are working around the clock but they aren't getting anywhere near the support and resources they need.

"NHS Dumfries and Galloway's plea for additional funding adds yet more fuel to the fire. The SNP have failed to properly resource social care, mental health and primary care services, and as a result more work has piled up at A&E's door.

"The Health Secretary owes NHS patients and staff an explanation as to how she plans to ensure health boards are adequately resourced and staffed going forward."
