Responding to the Scottish Government's announcement of the distribution of EU maritime and fisheries funds and that Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing plans a "summer tour" of highland shows and rural payments offices, Scottish Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP said:

"This announcement of EU funding for maritime projects in the North East and elsewhere will be welcomed by a Cabinet Secretary who has been all at sea too often over the past few months.

"The Cabinet Secretary should use his summer tour to apologise to the farmers across the country let down by his government's farm payments blunder.

"More important to farmers, however, is that the SNP Government produce detailed plans for them to scrutinise which explain how mistakes like this will be prevented from occurring again."
