Commenting on the announcement that initial work on dualling the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty is to get underway in June, Aberdeenshire Liberal Democrat MSP Alison McInnes said:
"I'm delighted with the news that work is finally set to get underway on dualling this busy stretch of the A90. Along with other campaigners, I've been working for years to push the Government to get started.
"The sad truth though is that, were it not for the SNP's dithering, we could already be driving on a new dual carriageway by now. The constant delays to the project have not simply let traffic congestion go on unchecked, but have been a major cause of uncertainty for many local residents.
"With the confusion caused by needlessly linking the A90 improvements to the ongoing AWPR saga, I have written to the Transport Minister to seek assurances that this announcement is not just another false dawn, but a sign that, finally, work on dualling the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty will begin in earnest."
Malcolm Bruce, MP for Gordon added:
"I am pleased that the Scottish Government has finally seen sense and de-linked the dualling of the Balmedie-Tipperty section from the AWPR.
"This project has been subject to a great deal of dithering and delay. Sustained pressure from the Lib Dems, local residents and commuters has together ensured that the dualling will at last be prioritised."
