Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP has revealed that six of the Scottish Government's buildings received the two worst possible ratings and none managed to get the top energy performance certificates
The certificate provides 'A' to 'G' ratings for the building, with 'A' being the most energy efficient and 'G' being the least.
The ratings were revealed in an answer to a Parliamentary Question tabled by Mr McArthur.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
"The SNP are guilty of a "do as I say, not as I do" approach to energy efficiency.
"It's shocking that none of the Government's larger buildings could scrape a top rating energy certificate. Indeed, most buildings received the two lowest rated certificates.
"These figures show that the Government has failed to get a grip of energy efficiency in its own buildings. The SNP needs to sort this out, because Government should lead by example. Householders won't take kindly to lectures from an SNP Government whose own buildings have failed to make the grade.
"Better insulation, efficient central heating and smart meters can dramatically cut fuel bills, which in this case would save the taxpayer money in addition to supporting our environment.
"The SNP has still to publish its energy efficiency action plan, now reportedly delayed until Autumn. In opposition three years ago SNP energy spokesperson and now Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead described such a plan as "the missing link".
"The Government needs to get serious about energy efficiency and publish the action plan without any further delay."
