Responding to the unveiling today by Aquamarine Power of the Oyster 2 Wave energy converter design and on the launch yesterday by Pelamis of their Vagr Atferd wave-power converter, Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP speaking from the All Energy Conference in Aberdeen said:

"The announcements made this week by Aquamarine Power and Pelamis highlight the huge strides being made by marine renewable developers in Scotland.

"These achievements have been much in evidence at the All Energy conference in Aberdeen, where Scotland's world lead in the energy sector generally has also been further underlined.

"The clear message from the renewable industry is that Scotland is still well placed to capture the jobs and wealth from exploiting these new technologies.

"There is also genuine optimism about the involvement of Liberal Democrats in Government at UK level and particularly the appointment of Chris Huhne as Energy Secretary.

"With our track record in supporting renewables in the previous Scottish Executive, that optimism is not misplaced."
