Commenting on the public sector pay bill announced by the Scottish Government today, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesman Jeremy Purvis said:
"A 1% pay increase for someone on £80,000 puts an extra £800 in their pocket. Yet the same increase for someone on low pay is significantly smaller, just £180 for someone on £18,000.
"Our approach, offering a £400 pay rise to all would be much fairer for the lower paid.
"This would be more progressive and save taxpayers' money.
"The Government should be using this opportunity to reduce the pay bill for those earning over £80,000 by 5%.
"This is a colossal missed opportunity
