Commenting on the latest publication of Cancer Incidence statistics, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP said:
"Poor lifestyle choices are holding Scotland back in the fight against cancer.
"Many of the cancer types on the rise are clearly linked to obesity and activities such as binge drinking, smoking and sunbathing.
"It is particularly worrying that lung cancer is still on the rise amongst women. Also concerning is the shocking 48% rise in male liver cancer over the last ten years.
"The biggest increase, however, has been in melanoma of the skin which has risen by 51% in women and 57% in men.
"Ministers and health boards must redouble their efforts to raise awareness of the serious risks associated with poor lifestyle choices."
